My Keto Beginnings

My Keto Beginnings

Well why would someone want to try out keto? To be honest I am only slightly over weight by probably 3 kilograms (I live in in Australia) and losing say 4kg would probably be optimal. It's not that kind of huge weight gain to really require a huge change in diet.

Also I eat close to zero softdrinks and very few cakes, desserts and the like. I have the very odd snack but then again nothing that could be described as a habit. Like most I could probably eat more fruit and veges but in the greater scheme of things a radical change in diet probably isn't required. Pancakes in the weekend are a regular and I do enjoy the infrequent french toast as well.

Other than being slightly over weight probably my main driver is that my sister and brother-in-law have taken up keto and been doing it for several years. Their results have been good but not earth shattering. Not because the diet doesn't work but more about staying the course. Probably at the back of my mind it's always about hearing that carbs are bad for you that is my driving factor.

For this reason alone I probably don't even need to do a keto diet and could probably just try and go low-carb. It's probably what I will try and do long term so this is a journey hence the name of this blog.

So starting off I can say I can already foresee a few challenges with this diet. I am a regular white rice eater, have wheat based noodles often and enjoy oats for breakfast. I don't eat a lot of potatoes or carrots but do enjoy sweet potatoes. Are radishes okay? I do like pickled veges and can probably guess they aren't keto. Anyway, lots to learn on this keto journey!

Having just made some keto flour cookies I am also feeling the dread of coconut overkill. I certainly don't want every cake, dessert or cookie tasting coconut!
